Since a very young age Sarah has been involved in music and the arts. She is a proud member of the Hau’oli Strummers and can often be seen performing at their open mic sessions. She has also performed in several musicals including: Once Upon a Mattress as Lady Larkin (Looking Glass Theater), Canadian Premiere of High Fidelity as Anna (Hart House Theatre), and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as Narrator (Grant Park Performing Arts). She studied voice, music theory and musical theatre at the University of Winnipeg. Sarah is excited to be teaching ukulele and voice at Hale Ukulele and can’t wait to share her love of music, especially with the kids.
Sarah began playing music at 6 years old, studying Classical Violin for 10 years. After college, she moved to San Diego where she discovered the 'ukulele and has been hooked ever since. Since 2009 Sarah has recorded three solo albums and two albums with her partner, Craig Chee. She and Craig travel the world teaching and performing 'ukulele. Though Sarah does enjoy traveling, there is still no place like home. When she is in San Diego, you can find her performing at local gigs and teaching here at Hale 'Ukulele. For her, the greatest joy is sharing music with her students.

Wanting to bring something to share on the mainland, Craig chose to focus on the ukulele before leaving Hawai’i for college. Although Craig had grown up playing the cello and piano, he wanted something that gave a little more distinction of coming from the islands. He has studied with Jake Shimabukuro and Troy Fernandez. He has also collaborated with Aldrine Guerrero and Aaron Nakamura, of 'Ukulele Underground, teaching a Masters Class. From workshops to individual lessons, Craig loves teaching. He has recorded two full length albums of his own, as well as two with his partner, Sarah Maisel. Though they enjoy traveling the world together, playing at various festivals and events, their main joy is teaching.
Born in Illinois but growing up on Guam and Hawaii, Kurt’s first exposure to the ukulele came from listening to his father and friends play at any opportunity. This experience created a deep appreciation for the power of music bringing people together celebrating life through song.
Kurt can often be found playing and singing at local venues throughout San Diego. He also performs with his two daughters while they perform with a local Polynesian dance revue, The Pride of Polynesia.
Kurt is available for private performances and group or private lessons.
